As a placement agency for the elderly, we often times recommend a memory care community for your loved ones who may have Dementia or Alzheimer’s. These homes are specially designed, maintained, and staffed for people who have Alzheimer’s or other forms of Dementia. Typically, staff has taken special courses and/or seminars on how to care for seniors with behaviors such as aggression, depression, and confusion.
Many of the larger assisted living facilities in Florida offer Alzheimer’s/Memory care within their facility. Normally, the floor plans are one level, with flat surfaces for walking. Most homes have novelties such as textured pictures on the walls, for sight and touch, enclosed court yards for freedom and security, some even have pets for the residents to enjoy.
Alzheimers and Memory Care FacilitiesThe floors are distinctly different colors than the walls to not confuse a person’s gait. Semi-private rooms are available and sometimes preferred to prevent loneliness and isolation. Like the other options for housing, Memory/Alzheimer’s Care can take place in a large community or a smaller Residential Care Community for the Elderly
Memory care communities are specialized, they have trained staff that are knowledgeable in dealing with Alzheimer’s and Dementia clients. They help with all aspects of care – dressing, bathing, feeding, activities, redirection, keeping your loved one safe.
They have programs to keep them active, offering the best possible quality of life.
Each community is unique. Memory care is specialized – it’s more than a locked door. They range in cost starting at $4000.00/month.
Unfortunately insurance does not pay for these type of facilities and Medicare does NOT pay for memory care communities either.
When looking for a Memory Care Facility for your loved one that has Dementia or Alzheimer’s you’ll want to ask the following questions before making a decision.
